my dad just bought me this wicked 2020 Harley Road Glide Special bcs I graduated as valedictorian.
I found some scary metal bits when I drained the oil from this motorcycle.
The bike was running fine when I parked it last fall. I usually change the oil before winter, but didn't get around to it this time. Now it's warming up, and I got to it.
It has about 19K miles, and it's been 2,250 miles since the last oil change (I always use Amsoil).
When I took out the drain plug, there were some metal pieces stuck to the magnet on it.
One was a small chunk, and the other two were thin and pinlike. I stuck a magnet in the drain hole but didn't find any more.
Then I cut open the oil filter and found a good amount of fine, shiny metal stuff that wasn't magnetic.
Well, the bike ran great when he parked it. About 2,500 miles ago, I did some upgrades: S&S lifters, tappet cuffs, and adjustable push rods.
The installation went well, and the bike ran fine afterward. then changed the oil after 250 miles, and it looked clean.
I did have a problem with a broken bolt on one of the tappet cuffs, but got it out without (hopefully) getting any metal bits inside.
I dropped the drain plug into the clean oil drain pan, but I don't think that's where the metal came from.
those pin like metal pieces are about the thickness of a coarse wire brush bristle.
Ok, guys, where this metal could be from and what I should do next to figure it out and fix it.
We don't really have many good local mechanics nearby, but there are two Harley dealers about an hour away. So, I'm quite worried if something bad would happen to my one and only vehicle lol
